Tea Light Candle Sleeve
Difficulty Rating -

If you have forgotten to buy beautiful candles for the centrepiece on your Valentines dinner table, do not despair! We have a great little trick to turn plain tea light candleholders in to funky Valentine's candleholders with tea light candle sleeves. The sleeves are made from stiff card and have 'LOVE' cut out of each side, so they look romantic when the candle is lit. They are really quick and cheap to make and look beautiful.
Tea Light Candle Sleeve can only be used on candles, which have a glass surround; the card sleeve should not be put directly next to a naked flame, as this is a fire hazard.
To make a Tea Light Candle Sleeve you will need...
Thin white card,
Glue
Scissors, pencil and a ruler.
First you need to measure how tall the glass candleholder is. Whatever this measurement is, mark it on the card and draw out a long rectangle at this height from the edge of the card.
Next you need to measure across the glass candleholder to find out the width. It is very difficult to get an accurate measurement, but an approximate measurement on the big side is great.
On the big rectangle that you drew, measure out the width of the candleholder 4 times to create 4 panels. If you can not fit 4 panels on the rectangle, draw 2 on this card and use another sheet of card for the other two panels. A tab can join the two pieces together later. (The Tab will be explained later)
On the 4 panels you need to write the word 'LOVE' with one letter in each panel. When you get to the 'O' it is rather nice to cut out a heart shape. Draw the letters on and cut them out and rub out any pencil marks.
At one end of the long rectangle you need to create a tab so that the card can be joined together. The tab need to only be 1 cm wide, and the same height as the panels. Snip the corners of the tab off so that it makes a neat join.
Cut out the sleeve and tab, and score all of the joining lines of the panels and the tab. Bend the sleeve around so that it forms a box type shape and glue the tab, and stick it to the inside of the sleeve. You will need to glue two tabs here if you make the sleeve in two parts.
The sleeve is now ready to slip over your existing plain candleholder.
