Valentine's Sweethearts Recipe

The Valentines Sweetheart cakes are pretty and pink and as sweet as your Valentine Sweetheart is! The Valentines sweethearts are similar to rice crispy cakes, but instead of melted Chocolate, the Valentines style cakes are made with melted marshmallows, which help to give them their pink appearance. The Valentine's Sweetheart cakes only take 10 minutes to make so are great for a last minute extra on Valentines Day.

To Make Valentine's Sweethearts you will need...
50g of Butter or Margarine
180g of Marshmallows
A few drops of red food colouring
130g of Rice Crispies
Edible Pink Glitter, silver and golden balls to decorate.

Start by melting the butter in a large saucepan on a low heat. When the butter has melted, add the marshmallows. You will need to keep stirring the mixture until the marshmallows have melted.

Take the pan off the heat and add a couple of drops of the red food colouring. Remember the fewer drops of food colouring you add the pinker the mixture will be, the more you add the redder the finished Sweetheart Cakes will be.

Now stir in the rice crispies ensuring that each one is completely coated with the marshmallows mixture.

Spoon the mixture into a greaseproof lined tray. Spread out evenly and flatten down with the back of a spoon.

Whilst the mixture is still sticky, decorate with edible pink glitter and silver and golden balls. If you have other sprinkles to hand; used those instead.

Leave the tray in the fridge for 5 minutes to set.

With a metal Heart shaped cookie cutter, cut the set rice crispy cake into love heart shapes. Used flattened out paper cake cases to put your finished Valentines Sweethearts on.

Keep in an airtight box. Valentine's Sweethearts are great to give as a Valentine's gift, but are even better for sharing, after all, Love is the sweetest thing!
