Art Clay Valentines Heart Necklace
Difficulty Rating -

Want to leave an impression on your loved one's heart for them to carry around with them? This delightful heart pendent is personalised with your thumbprint and your name. This is an ultra romantic gift idea to make, and all you need is an art clay starter pack.
Art clay silver is pure metal powder mixed with non-toxic binders and water. When fired with a kiln, torch, or gas stove top, the binders burn away leaving 99.9% pure silver. Which enables us to make silver jewellery at home. But you don't have to choose silver, art clay is also available as Gold and Copper too.
Don't be daunted by art clay, its just like moulding clay or Plasticine.
Follow the instructions for use on the box and use the below as a guide to make the Valentines Heart pendent.
Roll out a thick sheet of metal clay (approximately 3/8" thick).
Make a thumbprint in the surface of the art clay. Cut out a heart shape making sure that your thumbprint is contained in the heart.
With a sharp implement (a bamboo skewer is ideal) Write your name down the side of the heart.
Next make a hole at the top of the heart. On the right of the right heart hump is nice. This hole will be used later to hang the heart from a chain or bootlace.
Let the heart dry.
Lightly sand the edges with a Glass file, Sanding Blocks or Sanding Pads.
Fire the heart at 800°C for 5 minutes in kiln, 5 minutes on a Gas Hob or 2 minutes with a Gas Torch.
After firing, burnish the piece with a brass brush. Follow with a burnishing tool to polish the edges and the high spots for a brighter shine.
Hang the heart from a chain or a leather bootlace.
